World's Leading Interactive Entertainment Publisher to Debut 18 Titles Across all Platforms: PlayStation®2, Nintendo GameCube™, Xbox™ and the PC
REDWOOD CITY, Calif -- May 15, 2001 -- Madden Football: Only Title to be Showcased on three new platforms at E3.
Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS), the world's largest interactive entertainment software company, today announced its Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) lineup of 18 titles with versions that support both current and next generation platforms from the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system to the Xbox™ video game system from Microsoft and Nintendo GameCube™, Game Boy® Color and Game Boy® Advance. Additionally, EA is driving innovation with four Internet-based games that are under development for its online division, EA.com(sm).
"Our E3 line up demonstrates that EA will maintain its industry leadership across all platforms," said Don Mattrick, president EA Worldwide Studios. "We're showing 12 new titles that should further cement EA's lead with the steadily growing base of PlayStation 2 consumers. We'll also debut several new games on Xbox, GameCube and Game Boy Advance. As those platforms launch and grow in popularity, EA will supply the games that show consumers what next generation technology is all about."
"EA continues to break new ground with original content and by refreshing classic franchises across all platforms," said John Riccitiello, EA's president and chief operating officer. "EA SPORTS games like Madden NFL™ 2002 and EA GAMES titles like James Bond In...Agent Under Fire™, are all about great action gameplay on the PlayStation 2."
"Harry Potter™ on the PlayStation, PC, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance are going to give kids incredible gameplay, graphics and all the magical adventure they can handle. Madden just keeps getting better, we've heightened the intensity of the competition, improved facial animations, lighting and added some unique facial expressions. When you look at that game on the GameCube, you can almost feel a player's exhilaration when he makes a winning play. And F1 2001 on the Xbox is like living a fantasy, you actually feel like you're behind the wheel," said Riccitiello.
"We're also forging ahead in the area of online entertainment with a potent mix of games -- an online thriller, a never-ending world of The Sims™, a space age community and a return to the golden era of American hot rods. We'll be bringing these Internet games to consumers over the next year," said Riccitiello.
EA will also roll out new titles under the EA SPORTS BIG™ brand at the show. Unlike the EA SPORTS™ brand that is synonymous with the precise simulation of professional and collegiate sports, EA SPORTS BIG reflects the maverick world of extreme sports where huge moves and skillful tricks are the only things that count on the scoreboard.
